Facebook Parent Company Meta: Attractive Compensation Packages and Tech Industry Leadership, Amidst Layoffs and Controversial AI Spending

The average annual salary for Meta employees is $379,000

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has recently filed a report with the SEC that revealed the median employee at the company earned over $379,000 in 2023. This figure is higher than many tech jobs but on par with rivals like Google and Amazon. While Meta’s median salary is not as high as other Big Tech companies, CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s total compensation in 2023 was $24.4 million from security and logistical costs. However, Zuckerberg’s net worth is primarily tied to his stock options rather than his salary.

Despite its attractive compensation packages, Meta is currently undergoing significant changes. The company has implemented a “Year of Efficiency” to maximize productivity through performance reviews and layoffs. This state of affairs is now permanent, with Meta having cut 22% of its staff since 2022 and no end in sight. Although Meta reported strong earnings in its latest quarterly call, investors are concerned about the company’s plan to spend billions on AI technology. Despite these challenges, Meta remains one of the most innovative and successful companies in the tech industry today.
