Local Decatur Man Smashes World Record for Most Squats in 24 Hours and Raises Money for Charity: Tony Piraino’s Journey.

Illinois man breaks world record by completing 26,100 squats in 24 hours

An Illinois man named Tony Piraino from Decatur recently set a new Guinness World Record for the most squats done in 24 hours. His goal was to surpass the previous record of 25,000 squats set by Joe Reverdes of Rhode Island in 2020. To his delight, not only did he surpass Reverdes’ total but he also exceeded his own goal by completing 26,100 squats. However, to officially hold the record, his attempt must still be reviewed by the officials at Guinness World Records for certification.

Piraino began his grueling challenge at 5 a.m. on a Thursday and finished at 5 a.m. the following day. He took 30-second breaks after each set of 22 squats, with occasional longer breaks to ensure he had the stamina to continue. Despite the physical demands of the challenge, Piraino’s dedication to his cause ultimately paid off as it helped raise money for Marion County Horizon Center of Decatur and Mount Zion which provides vital services such as housing, employment opportunities and other resources for adults with developmental disabilities.

Piraino’s achievement serves as an inspiration to others to push their limits and make a positive difference in their communities. By combining his passion for fitness with a charitable cause, Piraino has shown that anything is possible when one sets their mind to it and works hard towards their goals while making a positive impact in society along the way.
