Science Night at West Greene Middle School: An Interactive and Memorable Experience for Families

Greene County Schools Joins NC Science Festival — Neuse News

Recently, Amy Pitts, a Senior Geologist for Education and Outreach, paid a visit to 8th graders at Greene County Middle School as part of the NC Science Festival Sci Match program. During her interactive session, she ignited the students’ passion for science through engaging hands-on activities.

At West Greene Middle School, the school organized a special science night for families with support from Duke Energy. The grant provided materials for ten exciting science-based activities that families could enjoy together. In addition to the hands-on activities, the school also offered science read-aloud sessions, parent EOG sessions, and even a green screen experience. Families received stamp cards upon arrival and could earn stamps by participating in various activities.

One of the highlights of the evening was a hot dog dinner for families, which created an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere for interaction with teachers and staff. Families could redeem their stamps for dinner once they accumulated five stamps, and those who collected ten stamps received a free Lego Education kit. Despite the cold weather, over 150 people attended the event, making it a huge success. Overall, West Greene’s Science Night provided an educational and memorable experience for families in the community.
